Starting on October 1st we are committing ourselves to prayer for one hour a day.
The purpose of this challenge is to motivate you to return to prayer and encourage you to pray boldly and consistently for 31 days. As you embark on this journey to reignite your prayer life, I pray that God would open your heart so that prayer becomes an essential part of your life.
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:19
It may seem overwhelming to commit to one hour a day, especially if you've never prayed that long before, but think how much God can move and do in 31 days. I truly believe that one month from now your life and the lives of those you love will be changed!
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philipians 4:6
A few Q& A's:
Q: Do I have to pray for a consecutive hour or can I break it up throughout the day?
That is between you and God. If you feel led to pray in the quiet before everyone in your home wakes, be obedient to that.
If you are commuting for an hour a day, ride and pray.
If your kids are napping and you want to use that time, by all means use it.
Be intentional with your prayer time and remember to go to the Lord before you commit to this challenge. Ask Him when He'd like to to spend time with Him.
Q: Do I just sit in silence? Can I journal? Can listen to music?
Once again, that is up to you and God, however I find when I write down my prayers I can stay better focused on my thoughts. I also love being able to look back through my prayer journals and see how God had worked or answered those prayers.
If music is not a distraction and helps you pray, great. But if you need silence to hear God's voice, then find that quiet spot to talk to Him.
Q: I'm not quite sure how to pray? Is there a guide or rules to praying?
That is totally ok. God is not looking for perfectly said prayers or for you to follow certain rules. He wants to know your heart and hear from you. Just like I would talk to a close friend or parent, that's how you can talk to God.
With that being said, there are a few tools and resources to help guide you through prayer.
