Clean Homemade Pizza Sauce

April 22, 2016

Who doesn't love pizza?  I sure do, but it can come with many unwanted ingredients, added sugars, and unhealthy fats. Not wanting to give it up completely, I decided to take my love for pizza and make a clean version.

You can make a flat bread pizza using whole wheat wraps, Flat Out brand wraps, make a cauliflower or zucchini pizza crust, or use Ezekiel brand wraps. Top that with my home made sauce, chicken breast, a light sprinkle of mozzarella cheese, and you will curb that pizza craving with out throwing away your day.

Clean Pizza Sauce

Ingredients

6-8 ripe tomatoes

1 medium onion

2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (or coconut oil)

2 tablespoons tomato paste

2 tablespoons Italian seasoning

1 tablespoon Flavor God pizza seasoning (or make your own using garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, coriander powder, and parsley flakes)

1 tablespoon stevia (or a few drops of liquid stevia)

Directions

Wash and dice tomatoes and onions. Place in a sauce pan with tomato paste, oil, and then cover. Turn to medium heat and bring to a simmer. Let the tomatoes cook down until a liquid starts to develop. Add in Italian seasoning and stir. Let simmer for 1-2 minutes. Add in Flavor God seasoning. Let simmer for another 1-2 minutes. Right before you take it off the heat add in the stevia. Note: You don't want to cook the stevia down too much. Also, I always taste test to make sure it has the flavor I want.

Next, take it off the heat and let cool for a few minutes. Once it's not scolding hot, place in a blender or magic bullet and blend until all the ingredients are smooth.

Pour into a mason jar, or an air tight jar, and store up to 2 weeks.

Hope you enjoy the recipe! Let me know if you have any questions, or if you give it a try.
