Where are my Trade Joe's peeps at?! If you've never been to one, what are you waiting for ;)
I'll be honest, I only starting regularly shopping at TJ's in the last few months. Before we moved, the closest one was 25-30 minutes away. Granted that is not that far, but it was in Orlando, and I hated dealing with the traffic just to get there. If I was in the area I'd stop in, but I never made an extra trip.
Now that we live about 10 minutes away from the closest TJ's and I'm in that area at least twice a week, it is now a regular.
One thing that is different about Trader Joe's is the products. Everything is under the Trader Joe's brand, so don't expect to walk in and see Kellogg's or Jiffy. I think this is one of my favorite things about the store though. You can find some truly unique items. I also love that they keep costs low by having their own brand. Saves me the $$.
Anywho, I'm not going to go into the history of Trade Joe's, just know know the store rocks.
I love when others share their favorite finds from grocery stores because there may be things that I have totally missed. So here are a few of my favorite items that you may or may not already use.
Besides the obvious fresh produce, these items are my go-to's for healthy lunches. I'm sure you've seen them show up in my Instagram stories quite a few times.
I prefer the shaved brussel sprouts over the normal sized ones because they cook faster. The other items below I combine with chicken, ground turkey, or ground beef to make quick and healthy lunches.
If you follow me on Instagram, I'm sure you've heard me mention Kombucha before. This is one of my favorite brands/flavors. It has an apple cider vinegar flavor, but sweet.
Trader Joe's has some of the best prices on organic items that are typically more expensive at other stores.
These are my go-to spices. I use them in my every day cooking. However, if you only buy one to try first it would be the Everything but the Bagel seasoning! I use it on literally everything!
There is a great variety of breads at TJ's. From gluten free to sprouted grain, there is something for everyone. They do carry Ezekiel Bread, however I recently discovered the sprouted wheat sourdough bread and it's my new favorite and a little cheaper than Ezekiel. Their cinnamon roll bread is pretty amazing too.
Also, if your kids like a good cereal bar, they have some decent options. My sons favorite is the PB&J Bars.
Spreads and Condiments
These are my go-to spreads that you can't find anywhere else.
And let me warn you, the Cookie Butter may not be the healthiest choice, but it is sooo good.
Once again, some of these items are unique to Trader Joe's. My favorite frozen green beans are TJ's extra fine french cut. They cook evenly without losing their crunch.
Frozen fruit can be expensive, but Trader Joe's has great prices.
My all time favorite frozen items are the coconut chunks, and the Açai Pure Packets. Put them together and you have a delicious frozen treat with no guilt.
Chips and Snacks
If you like spicy chips, then the Chili and Lime Rolled Tortilla Chips are for you. They are a new item, so I got a couple bags to stock up.
My son loves the Cinnamon Apple straws for a sweet treat and the organic coconut flakes are unsweetened.
Sweet Treats and Not Healthy Stuff
You know I had to include the goodies for our 20% right :) ? The Caramel Cheddar Popcorn is great if I need something quick to bring to a gathering. A little salty and a little sweet is the perfect combo.
And don't try the Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cups if you don't want to be addicted ;)
And lastly, if I need a quick meal to feed my husband these are a couple of his favorites. He loves the Gnocchi Gorgonzola with chopped up chicken and a side salad.
The ravioli is actually one of my favorite things. I could eat them cold with no sauce, that's how good they are.
Of course there are so many other great items at Trader Joe's. These are just some of our favorites. It can be overwhelming the first time you enter. Hopefully this helps you know what to look for or you've found something new to try.
My advice for first timer; make sure you have plenty of time to browse the aisles, read labels, etc. And do not take your kids with you! Once you've been a few times and have a routine down, then bring your small kids. Trader Joe's has mini shopping carts just for them! My daughter loves to push her cart around and help mommy shop.
I typically stop at TJ's once every other week to replenish things we've ran out of. I do the majority of my shopping at Walmart because of their curbside grocery pick up. It has been a game changer! So be on the look out in the next few weeks with all of my favorite Walmart grocery finds.
