When it comes to taking care of our bodies, many of us have a solid grasp on the steps we need to take. We follow fitness programs, count our calories and keep ourselves on track with diets and healthy foods. While it’s super important to do these things, it’s also vital that you pay attention to the products you use and put on your body, not just in your body.
Did you know that the law does not require cosmetic product companies to get approval from the FDA? This means that companies who manufacture personal care items and cosmetics do not have to disclose all the ingredients they use — even if the ingredients have been known to be toxic or even cancerous to our bodies. If that’s not frightening enough, the United States has only banned 30 ingredients from being used in cosmetics, whereas the EU has banned more than 1,300. Yikes.
I’ve recommended some of my favorite safer beauty swaps for you all, but now I’m excited to share with you this guide on clean and better-for-you types of beauty. These clean, vegan, fair-trade and organic beauty companies are taking steps to ensure that consumers can feel confident about using their products that do not contain harmful ingredients.
While these products are widely accessible for purchase, you can also take matters into your own hands by making beauty products at home. Check out the DIY recipes and learn how you can create your own hair masks, body scrubs and even lotion at home with simple, pure ingredients. Simple and clean — what could be better than that?
